Tittle-tattle about quads
Quads are vehicles designed to overcome extreme areas such as forests, wetlands, streams, shallow rivers, steep climbs and hills or sometimes on purpose built tracks.
The first engine powered prototypes were built in the 1970s by engineers at Honda. The prototype they created had only three wheels to begin with and was designed to tackle the toughest of terrains. Engineers in the United States then added a fourth wheel for safety reasons
Learning to ride a quad takes only a few minutes and you don’t require any particular driving skills. First, you get to know your quad and its controls before mastering some basic reflexes. One of the most important things to remember is to balance your body properly on corners, climbs and descents. For your own safety it’s mandatory to equip yourself with a helmet.
Quads are classified into three categories, road legal, off-road and utility. Road legals need to be registered and are allowed to be driven on public roads. Off-road quads are the ones used for recreation, farms and other tough terrain activities. Utilities are used for both road and work.
The record for the longest jump on a quad is 134ft and was performed by Australian Matt Coulter.
Quad riding for stags parties in Poland.
Like in Britain, this exciting and challenging sport can be enjoyed in Poland in numerous situations. In Krakow, our stag-do heroes get to take a ride to the lovely countryside right next to the famous National Park here.
Quading is a growing sport with many clubs dedicated to its enjoyment. It’s origins lie in the world of agriculture where the quad was introduced as an all terrain vehicle with great manoueverability and a light footprint which doesn’t undo the farmer’s previous ploughing work. They were originally three-wheelers but, being a serious health hazard, are now supported by 4 fat wheels. The bikes are pretty nippy and the ones we use in krakow come with a 250CC engine, more than enough to wake up our hungover stags!
The Krakow course offer 2 options: the first is a challenging purpose built track with a variety of obstacles to be defeated. The second is a cross country jaunt around the outskirts of the National Park. Whichever option is chosen, our stag party members are given the proper protective clothing and expert tuition, both of which are really important.
So why the designated areas and why not just anywhere?
The restrictions on quad use are brought about by the few downsides of the activity. The quad is quite a noisy machine, especially when there are groups of them. This is a very good kill or cure feature for the bleary-eyed stag party member. Fishermen have been known to object quite forcibly to them!
The deep treads on certain quads are handy for negotiating rough terrain but can create deep ruts and have even been known to contribute to bog drainage, stir up river beds and cause significant disturbance to some ecosystems.
Another problem stems from the uncanny abilities of these vehicles. Due to their to go almost anywhere, they contribute to the construction of new trails, thus breaking up blocks of terrain and threatening the wildlife species inhabiting them. Hence the restrictions.
