Laser tags, laser games or laser paintball -as it’s also called- is an interesting alternative to paintballing. Equipped with electronic armour and laser gun, you move in a futuristic maze full of obstacles, traps and special effects. You have 4 x 15 minutes sessions to reach the goal of the mission which is to get the maximum number of points. You score by hitting your opponents- so pretty similar to paintballing- but you suffer no bruises.

The activity takes place in the basement of an abandoned former 4 star hotel- it adds a lot to the atmosphere of the game- feels almost like in the Alien movies!

Tille-tattle about Laser Tag

  • In the late 1970s the US army deployed a system using infrared beams for combat training. Soon after, a toy was developed using infrared beams and a corresponding sensor called the Star Trek Electronic Phaser Guns Set.
  • In 1982 George Carter III had the idea of designing an arena-based system for playing a scored version of the game which occurred to him whilst he was watching Star Wars. The first laser tag arena opened in 1984 in Dallas, Texas. Since then the popularity of laser tag has grown immensely, with a number of laser tag arenas opening around the world.
  • The largest ever game of laser tag took place in Australia with 436 people playing simultaneously.
  • When laser tag was first invented it was an expensive pastime. In the 1980’s to purchase a ‘Photon’ arena franchise it would set you back about $1.2 million! Thankfully prices are a lot cheaper nowadays!
